A new beginning..

It’s time for me to start blogging properly, my life, my passions and my dreams (literally my dreams some days.. they’re pretty interesting!)

I have been so incredibly busy these last 8 months with Uni, I’m a second year contour student and as much as I love it, It has been the most stressful few months of my 23 year long life so far!

Course link: http://www.dmu.ac.uk/faculties/art_and_design/ug_courses/cont_fash.jsp

The posts will be things that inspire me, and I will be alot more vocal in my posts (if this isn’t something you want to see, feel free to unfollow me, but sometimes a girl needs a place to vent!)

I will be working on a number of projects over the summer which I’ll talk in more detail about as they come up, and also I’m hopefully going to be working for a gorgoues lingeire company (I’ll explain more at a later date when things are 100% confirmed) so I’ll have alot of exciting things to share!

Off to bed for the time being, I’m sleepy! After a manic few weeks preparing for a presentation with Curvy Kate and Lingeire buyer yesterday, and on average 3 hours sleep a night! I still havn’t gotten over the sleepyness <3

Talk soon lovelies xx

An update - Curvy Kate and Swimwear

Curvy kate and swimwear projects have totally dominated my life these last few weeks!

Swimwear is done, dusted and over with, loved the project and I wish I had more time to carry on with my ideas, but, what I do have I'm pleased with.
We had to choose a brand and a theme to design for, mine being Nichole De Carle (http://www.nicholedecarle.com/) and with a Nebula being my main theme for inspiration for my print. The colours found in a Nebula are stunning, deep purples and vivid pinks and blues, I felt so inspired! Rather than rambling on about it all, I'll just show a couple of pictures that sum it all up..

Initial nebula print.. was a little too pink so edited it to make the purple more vivid..

Finals on the mannequin after a manic 12 hour sewing day and one the night before too..

And ta daaaaa! Done!

Final hand in presentation display.

Now Curvy Kate, all very exciting! We were set a project by the lovely people from Curvy Kate and gave 6 weeks to produce a sketchbook and garments to show to the brand and lingerie buyer, from the show, they'd choose a fianl ten who would then go onto present formally, showing sketchbooks, illustrations, market research and the garments again on a professinal model. I'm so lucky to be one of the chosen ten who gets to show again! It's all VERY nerve wracking, and compared to the girls who I'm against, I know I won't win as their stuff is just to die for, but just to be recignised is really uplifting after such a crappy few weeks.
I'll show you my stuff anyway <3 Still have a printed baby doll, knickers and dressing gown to make before I show next, but I'm just in such a happy place at the minute.

Can you tell I like purple?

I'll keep you up to date with how I get on with it all anyway! <3

The corset project and Charnos

It's been far to long since I've updated this, I've just been so busy with Uni over the last few months It's only just died down and letting me have a day or two to breathe and do other normal things, so I'm going to do a quick update..

Last time I blogged I was talking about a corset project and how I was struggling to get going with that. Well that's done and finished and forgotten about!
This is the corset I ended up making for Holly..

Was just a simple, matt black corset with flower detail at the top edge. Was underbust in style as she is so full in the bust an overbust corset would just squash her, rather than show off her laverly boobs! This is what she made for me..

A lovely deep red little red riding hood inspired corset x

But it wasn't just making the thing we had to get the pattern cutting perfect as the garment was being graded on compression and not just how pretty it was, a tech folder, also needed to make a basque which I'll upload a pic in a sec of, erm, it was just non stop. And on top of that I had literally 8 other projects to do.

So yeah, this is the final display anyway.

You can see the basque there, a cheeky cut out bottom cup shows a little bit of skin whilst the rest is nice and fitted to hide all the lumps and bumps. Kinda shows the work load? And for only one project. But whatever it's done now. Had quite alot of illustration to do also for a trend package I had to design for AW12..

Starting to feel like I'm finally developing my own illustrator style now, which is nice, as before it's been such an issue for me to draw in a style i feel confident with, but I'm getting there I think.

also had another project which is all handed in now but I had to design a shapewear garment for Charnos. Didn't win the compition but had to present to the CEO of Charnos, Figleaves and Lingerie Buyer which was probably one of the scariest things I've ever done in my entire life.
Last picture now as I'm tired and I'm up at half 6 for Uni, but this is what I made.

Modeled by one of the most gorgeous ladies I know and also the bravest! Had her bum out all day bless her haha x

But yeah, onto term two of year two now and I feel I'm more used to the work load, however stressful it makes me feel I got through the first term so I'll manage this, and it's only like 3 months until I break up for the summer (yeah, the summer, until October. Makes me wonder what I'm paying £3,500 a year for in tuition fees but.)

So yeah, I'll be more consistent with this blog now.. honest x

Hmm

Slowly getting somewhere with my sketchbook work but really struggling to design a template I can draw my designs on top of.
Really frustrating me now, been sat here all day like a total dick.
Giving myself a deadline anyway, need to have it done tomorrow. I wrote my to-do list and it's 5 pages long so I don't have time to worry about getting this template done, especially when although I spend, like, 10+ hours a day doing uni work, my list isn't getting any smaller, I don't have time to be like this.
Had another cry today, so pathetic, I just don't know if I'm good enough anymore.

Tired eyes

So at the minute I have 3 sketchbooks on the go, 2 technical folders and a CAD project to hand in in the morning. Not taking into account the fact that in a month I need to have made 25+ garments, created a trend prediction pack, finished my sketchbooks, tec folders, knicker project, an industry project for Charnos and illustrations.. I don't know when I'm going to have time to just sit down and not worry about anything.
This isn't even me leaving things to the last minute, this is the work load we all have and we just need to find a way of dealing with it and getting it done. It's just frustrating, I know how involved I could get in each project if only I had a little more time, but it feels like everythings going to be like 15% rather than 100% just to make sure I get it all done on time.
I shouldn't moan, I do love the course, I just need to work out how best to focus my brain so i can actually get through this work load without having a panic attack.
